High Demand forces coronavirus test website closure
A temporary closure has been forced upon the new website following a surge in demand.
A statement from the department of health said they were working to increase capacity and more tests would become available by Saturday.
Within 2 minutes of the site opening, 5000 test kits were ordered.
The expanded testing scheme announced by Health Secretary Matt Hancock allows all essential workers in England to register for tests on the government’s website, if they or a family member have virus symptoms.
The website opened on Friday but appeared to close by mid-morning with some users met by an “applications closed” message.
DoH have said sorry for “any inconvenience” caused by the temporary closure of applications.
